Biped
How it works

Where every item comes from.

Biped reads free, public sources on a schedule, keeps one copy of each story, labels it, and links it back to where it came from. It never writes news of its own.

The sources

42 sources across 5 kinds, 42 of them answering at the last check:

  • Company newsrooms (4): the official blog or news page, by RSS where there is one, otherwise the news list page itself. When a list shows no dates, Biped reads the date the article states about itself.
  • Official YouTube channels (16): each channel's public video feed. For companies that make more than robots, only videos about their humanoid count.
  • Google News searches (21): one search per company. A headline must name the company or its robot to be kept.
  • US regulator notices (1): the Federal Register's public search for humanoid robots.

Newsrooms and searches are checked every 30 minutes, video channels every 20, regulator notices every 6 hours. Biped asks politely: one request at a time per site with a gap between them, conditional requests so an unchanged feed costs almost nothing, and longer waits after any error.

One story, one item

The same news arrives from a newsroom, a video and a dozen outlets. Biped matches links with tracking removed, then headlines by their meaningful words. A match within four days becomes one item that lists every source that told it; the company's own post becomes the main link when there is one.

Summaries and labels

Each item gets a one-line summary, a kind and a heat score from 0 to 100.

Right now a model writes the summaries, within a spending cap of $2.00 a day ($0.02 used today). When a model is connected, it reads the headline and the source's description as data only, must answer in a fixed format, and its answer is thrown away if it names any number the source did not state. It can move the heat by at most 20 points. Once the day's cap is reached, the rules take over until the next day.

The kinds

  • Approval: a regulator, government body or certifier clears, exempts or approves something.
  • Funding: money raised, an investment, a valuation or a stock listing.
  • Shipment: deliveries, deployments, orders, pilots at named sites, production.
  • Partnership: a deal or collaboration with a named partner.
  • Price: a price or a preorder announced.
  • Showcase: a robot unveiled, shown or filmed.
  • People: people joining, leaving or being appointed.
  • Other: anything else.

Heat, by rule

  • Approval starts at 60, funding and shipment at 50, price at 45, partnership at 40, showcase at 25, people at 15, other at 10.
  • Funding of $1B or more adds 25, $100M or more adds 15, $10M or more adds 5.
  • Straight from the company or a regulator adds 10.
  • Each extra source that reports the same story adds 5, up to 20.
  • Milestone wording in the headline (first, record, government) adds 5.

Every item's page lists the reasons behind its heat.

The race board

Each company's score is a sum of capped parts, computed from dated items in the public feed:

  • Approvals: 18 points per approval or clearance in the last 30 days. At most 36 points.
  • Shipments and pilots: 10 points per delivery, deployment, order or production item in the last 30 days. At most 30 points.
  • Funding: 12 points per funding item in the last 90 days, plus 10 if $1B or more, 5 if $100M or more. At most 30 points.
  • Partnerships: 6 points per partnership in the last 30 days. At most 18 points.
  • Showcase cadence: 2 points per day in the last 30 days with a video or post from the company itself. At most 14 points.
  • News momentum: 1 point per story in the last 7 days, all kinds counted once. At most 20 points.
  • Stage: Shipping 12, preorder 8, pilot 6, announced 2, prototype 0. At most 12 points.

Movers compare the board now with the board as it stood 24 hours earlier, from the same items. The board ranks public news signals only. It does not measure any company's value and it is not investment advice.

Models and milestones

The models catalogue lists 48 humanoid models from the tracked companies. Height, weight, degrees of freedom, payload, price and availability appear only where a public source states them, with a link to that source and its own words on hover. Anything no source states reads "Not disclosed". Where sources disagree, the company's own page wins, and a figure still in dispute is left out.

The timeline joins two lists: 78 past milestones, each read on its source page, and the approval, funding, shipment, partnership and price items from the feed, plus the companies' own high-heat showcases. Every entry links its source or its item page.

Delay and holders

The public feed shows a new item 5 minutes after Biped first sees it. Holders of $BIPED who sign in with Phantom see it at once, can follow companies and get alerts for them. See $BIPED.

What Biped does not do

  • It does not write, rewrite or embellish news. Every item links its source and shows the source's name and time.
  • It does not copy articles. It keeps a headline, a short description where the source offers one, and the link.
  • It does not give investment advice or predict prices.
